RESEARCH
Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network (TMMSN) has conducted marine mammal research along the Texas coast since 1980. TMMSN continues to:
Collect data and biological samples from live and dead stranded marine mammals
Maintain a long-term dataset to use as baseline comparative data and assess marine mammal health trends
Conduct photographic identification surveys in Texas bays, sounds, and estuaries (BSE) and coastal waters for live bottlenose dolphin abundance estimates, movement patterns, habitat use, and seasonal occurrence.
Document locations and movement patterns of West Indian Manatees in Texas waters
Publish findings and case studies from stranded marine mammals and marine mammal population surveys
Collaborate with marine mammal researchers from other institutions to contribute to published literature and presentations for the advancement of marine mammal science
Assess the incidence or prevalence of human induced injury or mortality for conservation management
